FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

JENKINTOWN EDUCATION FOUNDATION FULLY FUNDS

STEAM SCIENCE KITS

On October 27, 2020, the Jenkintown Education Foundation unanimously approved fully funding new hands-on science kits in the amount of $10,261.50, to support the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) Education Program for all K-6 students in the School District of Jenkintown.

Following an extensive review of the K-12 science program last year, the District recommended these kits as part of its ongoing efforts to renew and renovate its cutting-edge STEAM program.  Historically, the District has rented the hands-on components of its science curriculum, a practice that saves money each year but is, over time, more expensive than purchasing reusable kits.  It was at this point that the Foundation was able to respond to an ongoing request from  the District’s Superintendent, Dr. Jill Takacs, for financial support for this program by soliciting donations, applying for grants, and conducting other fundraising efforts.  Fully funding the purchase of the elementary school science kits bolsters the students’ and teachers’ pursuit of excellence in education while improving the District’s bottom line.

The Jenkintown Education Foundation wishes to thank its 2019 partner in the PA EITC program, Elliot-Lewis Corporation, whose donation helped reach this goal.  As the non-profit arm of the District, the Foundation’s fully volunteer Board looks forward to further maximizing the educational experience of all the students in Jenkintown and is currently seeking additional business partner(s) in the PA EITC program.
